MD003 series modules include:

Charlie, as agreed I have just copied in all the ML website text about these modules, for you to edit down. I think the parts in red are redundant, as they apply when the individual modules had their own pages?

MD003-ETH

Modern video installations depend on high-quality, high-speed data communications almost as much as they depend on video circuits. With the MD003 E-TXRX and E-RXTX card set installed in an MD003 chassis, many different types of Ethernet and IP traffic can easily be supported.

Four completely independent, bi-directional Ethernet channels on each card ensure that data flows on the individual ports will be kept separate, allowing each flow to operate at full wire-speed rates and with total isolation. This permits data from different user networks to be transported with complete security and no possibility of data traffic collisions over a common fiber backbone. In addition, two analog audio channels are provided for intercom or low speed data connections.

Through the use of Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), an MD003 system can support multiple channels of video on a single fiber, in addition to one or more groups of Ethernet links. Because the E-TXRX and E-RXTX are both bi-directional modules, each module occupies two slots in both the origin and destination chassis.

In addition to the E-TXRX/E-RXTX modules, the MD-003 series includes and (an?) STM-1/OC3 transmitter and receiver along with a universal video interface card that supports HD-SDI, SD-SDI, SDTI and DVB/ASI video signals.

MD003-GETR

The MD003-GETR 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver provides a cost effective, robust single card solution for converged broadcast network needs. This video-aware, layer 2 Ethernet switch manages bandwidth for multiple input ports, allowing a single high speed optical Gigabit Ethernet link to be intelligently managed. Video signals are given priority whenever they are active, while data can be transported on the remaining bandwidth. When the video signals are removed, data bandwidth is automatically increased.

The GETR provides non-blocking, wire speed port aggregation that combines 4 standard Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and one optional 10/100 RJ45 interface into a single optical interface. The bandwidth on each port can be controlled in 1 Mbps increments.

Two modes of operation can be configured; VLAN mode and PORT mode. In VLAN mode, priority can be assigned to video traffic and provide provisioned bandwidth for specific VLAN Groups with Guaranteed QoS while other traffic is best effort. In PORT mode, video traffic is assigned priority based on port order from 1-4. In each mode, non-video traffic speeds up to full bandwidth when video is not present at the input.

Industry standard SFP optics are used in the optical transceiver port to support common sparing with other fiber transport equipment. The optical port can also be rate-limited to ensure compatibility with carrier service level agreements.

In addition to the E-TXRX/E-RXTX modules, the MD003 series includes an STM-1/OC3 transmitter and receiver along with a universal video interface card that supports HD-SDI, SD-SDI, SDTI and DVB/ASI video signals.

Media Links' HD-GigE compression codecs can be used with the GETRin the MD003 carrier-class 1RU shelf to provide a compact, cost effective multi-service IP transport solution.

The MD003-GETR is ideal for HD, SD, DVB-ASI video transport over IPnetworks as well as shared use with file transfer, VOIP, Internet access and other IP applications. Combining multiple IP services onto a single fiber reduces the need for remote switches on the network and uses fewer ports on core IP routers.

MD003-STM

Combining standard telecomm signals with uncompressed video transport has never been easier than with the MD003 series from Media Links. With the MD003 STM-1 TX and STM-1 RX, both SDH and SONET signals can easily be transported alongside a variety of video formats. Through the use of optical Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM), multiple signals can be combined onto a single fiber with no interdependency, and each will arrive intact at the far end of the link because of forward error correction on every circuit.

Many popular video, audio, voice and data multiplexers have SDH/SONET STM-1/OC3 interfaces, which can all interface directly to both the MD003 SMT-1 TX and RX units. Complete, full bandwidth transparency of the transport link ensures that all protocols embedded within the STM-1/OC3 frame structure can be transported, including ATM, Packet over SONET and Frame Relay. At the far end of the circuit, connections can be made to other multiplexing equipment or directly to local and long-haul circuits provided by carriers.

Both unidirectional and bidirectional circuits can be constructed with these units. One-way transport is often useful for compressed video and program audio applications. Two-way circuits can be constructed by using a transmitter and receiver module at each end of the circuit and employing one wavelength for each direction of transport.

In addition to the STM-1 TX/RX modules, the MD-003 series includes a 4-channel Ethernet transmitter/ receiver along with a universal video interface card that supports HD-SDI, SD-SDI, SDTI and DVB/ASI video signals.

MD003-VidMod

The MD003 Universal Video interface is a key part of the MD003 system, providing a single optical TX/RX card set for all types of video signals.

Configuration settings are a thing of the past with the MD003 Video Transmitter and Receiver modules, which automatically adapt to any valid HD, SD, DVB-ASI, or SDTI signal. Automatic, in-band Forward Error Correction (FEC) eliminates bit errors that may occur from long fiber runs or poor quality splices and connectors.

Through the use of Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), multiple signals can be combined on a single fiber up to 16 channels using economical CWDM, or 32 channels using high-powered DWDM.

In addition to the Universal Video interface, the MD003 series also provides an STM-1/OC3 telecom signal interface and a quad 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interface.
