About Our History

Founded in 1995 by Charlie Day, The UK Office is an established supplier and integrator of advanced sound and vision transport solutions, as well as wireless interconnection technology.

The UK Office evolved out of The European Office, which had managed European distribution for professional audio equipment manufacturers since 1991. Unable to find suitable support in the UK for some of the products represented, the new business was established to bring them to market directly. With Charlie's technical training and background in Broadcast and Professional Audio, The UK Office grew steadily, offering qualified advice in system design with carefully selected, quality products. Increasing demand for connectivity, and a long association with the uniquely powerful Intraplex range of E1 multiplexers, helped the company build a strong reputation in broadcast audio communications.

Expansion into wireless communications began in 1998, with the introduction of Western Multiplex (now Proxim, owned by Terabeam). Since then, The UK Office has developed its expertise in audio and video network distribution over wired and wireless networks.

Also in 1998, Harris Corporation Broadcast Communication Division acquired Intraplex, which gave The UK Office access to a wider range of broadcast audio and video encoding and routing equipment. The new association with Harris, together with the company’s developing expertise in wireless systems, made it ideally qualified to take on the Harris Microwave products.

Over the intervening years, the climate of the industries that the company operates in changed to the extent that people could cost-effectively put together computer-based recording studios in their homes, reducing the need for the high-end Pro-Audio equipment that we previously sold. As the broadcast-based side of the business was flourishing, we took the decision to relinquish the pro-audio lines and to concentrate the company’s efforts into broadcast technologies.

Today, the company enjoys strong relationships with its key suppliers, including Media Links (Video Transport), Harris (Intraplex), HaiVision (Codecs) and Zixi (Quality Assured Internet Streaming).  We're also working with Musion to offer our customers Holographic TelePresence.

Always on the lookout for new technologies, listening to what our customers need and finding solutions to cater for them, we also encourage manufacturers to develop in these directions.  Our core value of customer service remains as prominent as it did when we started back in 1995.
