The Company
is located in modern offices in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, in the centre
of the Milton Keynes/Aylesbury/Luton triangle, close to the M1 and on the
East Coast Main Line 35 minutes out of Euston Station in London.
The UK Office evolved out of The European Office, which had managed European
distribution for professional audio equipment manufacturers since 1991.
Unable to find suitable support in the UK for some of the products represented,
the new business was established to bring them to market directly. With
a technical training and background in Broadcast and Professional Audio
The UK Office grew steadily, offering qualified advice in system design
with carefully selected, quality products. Increasing demand for connectivity
and a long association with the uniquely powerful Intraplex range of E1
multiplexers helped the Company build a strong reputation in broadcast audio
communications.
Expansion into wireless communications began in 1998 with the introduction
of Western Multiplex (now Proxim, owned by Terabeam). Since then The UK
Office has developed its expertise in audio and video network distribution
over wired and wireless networks.
Also in 1998 Harris Corporation Broadcast Communication Division acquired Intraplex, which gave TUKO access to a wider range of broadcast audio and video encoding and routing equipment. The new association with Harris, together with the company’s developing expertise in wireless systems made it ideally qualified to take on the Harris Microwave products. TUKO is now able to offer the full range of Harris point-to-point licence frequency carrier class products.
Over the years the climate of the industries that the company operated in changed to the extent that people could cost-effectively put together computer-based recording studios in their homes, reducing the need for the high-end Pro-Audio equipment that was previously sold. As the broadcast-based side of the business was flourishing, the decision was made to relinquish the pro-audio lines and to concentrate the company’s efforts.
Since then, the company portfolio has largely consisted of the core Harris products (Intraplex, Digital TV video equipment and licensed microwave), Media Links (HD Linear Video Transport), Broadcast Tools, VBrick (video codecs) and Proxim (license-exempt indoor and outdoor wireless LAN equipment).
The company has many regular customers - including the BBC, NTL, Capital Radio, Chrysalis, Guardian Media Group, the NHS along with most of the independent radio groups (see Clients).
