Flexicoder
Harris FlexiCoder™ MPEG-2 Encoding Systems provide the DTV capabilities you
need today whilst making it easy to expand in the future.
Based on a truly modular architecture and designed to meet the high
reliability expectations of broadcasters, Harris encoders provide an
extensive range of video combinations; from a single-channel Standard
Definition (SD) or High Definition (HD) encoding to a fully redundant
multi-channel SD/HD system – and a cost-effective migration path as your
needs unfold.
The DTV systems come in a range of frame sizes. VS-5 enclosure is a 5RU
shelf and holds up to five modules. The VS-21 is 14RU and holds 21 modules,
providing up to 40 SD programs in a statistical multiplexer configuration.
If your station has requirements for only single channel encoding, the
UniCoder™ provides the quality of FlexiCoder systems in a compact,
non-expandable 2RU system. However, if at a future stage there is a need for
more channels the enclosure can be exchanged for a FlexiCoder shelf at no
charge!
The Harris encoder delivers unsurpassed video quality via proprietary
Standard Definition Statistical Multiplexing (SDSM) and High Definition
Standard Definition Compression Management (HDCM) that dynamically allocates compression bandwidth where it is most needed for optimal picture quality.

- High quality audio performance with both MPEG and Dolby AC3 2.0 built in to each encoder.
- Also supports external Dolby AC3 5.1 & Dolby E Large range of output interfaces including: DVB/ASI, Multiple Independent ASI’s, DS3/E3, Singlemode & Multimode OC3, STM-1 & SMPTE 310M.
- Optional integrated decoding modules for high-confidence monitoring.
- SD Output bit rate user definable at 4:2:0 (1 to 50 Mbps) or 4:2:2 (8 to 50 Mbps)
